hapax legomena - Greek for "once said"; words which show up only once (generally used to refer to words in the Tanach); "it has nothing alike, no brother, no fellow, no comrade in the Bible"; "isolated words". There are approximately 1300 hapax legomena in the Tanach (although exact definition is not clear because we could consider homonyms). About 900 of those 1300 are derived from well-known roots, the other 400 are not from known biblical roots (60 of these are found in Job and another 60 in Isaiah) and could be attributed to errors in transmission. However not all 400 can be assumed errors and there are three strategies that scholars generally use to approach these words: compare the word with other Semitic languages, look at the vernacular speech, and look at mischaic (middle Hebrew) uses. Pretty damn awesome, if you ask me.
So in our family's long cherished tradition of playing musical cars, I am now driving a piece of crap car...yet again. This one belongs to my mom's friend's daughter, who is out of town. The car...well let me put it this way, it didn't pass it's last inspection. It failed miserably, in fact, and there hasn't been any money put into it since they found out it failed either. To accelerate at all you have to pump the gas, it makes a weird high-pitched screeching noise when the weather gets below twenty degrees, you have to put the volume on the radio above 27 in order not to hear the engine, and I'm pretty sure the gas gauge doesn't work. So all things said and done, I'm glad to be back driving a vehicle that barely runs. I've missed that OH GD I'M GOING TO DIE feeling that I just don't get when driving my mom's car or Gil's.
Also, I'm watching Holidays at Walt Disney World on the Food Network and it's kind of sickening.
Oh, and Merry Christmas to all you happy little Christians.
Peace.
